Poker hands in a standard five-card game are ranked in order of strength from the strongest to the weakest. Royal Flush is the best possible hand with cards such as 10, Jack, King, Queen and Ace of the same suit. Any five-card sequence of the same suit is called the Straight Flush. All four cards of the same value are referred to as the Four of a Kind. Three of a kind combined with a pair is known as the Full House. Five cards in sequence of different suites are called the Straight and then come the lower valued hands such as Three of a Kind and Two Pair.

The beginners as well as the professional players make a lot of mistakes when it comes to poker. Therefore it is imperative to identify these mistakes and rectify them.

Do not be emotional while playing the game.

Avoid being careless while other players are placing their bets.

Do not take things at the face value; it is not necessary that the player has a bad hand if he frowns.

Do not make hasty decisions to fold during the round. A lot of people give up in between the game, without actually looking at the cards.

Recognize and avoid the tilt. Do not try to recoup your losses when you are on a losing streak.

Even though there are quite a lot of people who believe that a pocket pair does not account for much, it is known that sometimes these turn out to be the winning cards, which would fetch you the pot. The pocket tens and the pocket jacks are considered to be the middle pocket pairs. Playing these pairs during a tournament is tricky since a lot of people tend to think of them as the highest pocket pairs. These are better cards in the hand and therefore you must plan your moves carefully in order to use them better.

There is basic poker etiquette to follow, regardless of your playing location. Such poker rules ensure that the game is fair. To begin with, you must always play when it’s your turn. Playing out of way would distract the other players and can influence their decisions. It would be inappropriate to talk about the cards in your hand, while the round is still on. It would be tempting to chat once you have folded, but this information could be used negatively by the other players in the round. Make sure you do not show your cards until the final showdown. There is no reason to expose your cards unless you are heads-up and all in.

Any time you will get called to your All-In, you will have very good Heads-Up hands, that in most of the cases will give you a 50% or better winning chance. When you don’t get called, you will collect blinds and previous calls/bets, that will usually increase your stack compared to the cost of the blinds. This strategy also eliminates the possibility of entering a flop with good cards (e.g. AK), getting a very ugly flop (e.g. 3, 4, 6) and get bluffed or beaten by an opponent with trash cards (e.g. 5, 7). If you have AK and he has 5, 7 he will fold to your All-In. If he calls, you have 63.12% winning chance.
